What a text watermark is
A watermark is text or a logo placed on top of an image to show who made it or who it belongs to. Visible watermarks are a deterrent rather than a lock: they make casual reuse less attractive and keep your name attached to the picture when it is shared or reposted.
This tool adds a single line of text. The text is drawn onto a copy of the image in bold sans-serif type, in white with a thin dark outline, so it stays readable on both light and dark backgrounds. You control the wording, size, opacity and where it sits. It does not support logos, custom fonts, color choices, rotation or a repeating pattern across the picture.
When you would use one
Photographers, artists and shop owners often watermark preview images before posting them publicly. Teams use it to mark drafts or internal screenshots, and small businesses add a web address or brand name to product photos.
Placement matters. A mark in a corner is least intrusive but is easy to crop out. A mark near the center is harder to remove but covers more of the picture. Many people pick a lower opacity and a mid-size font as a compromise. If part of the image needs hiding rather than labeling, a blur is a better fit than a watermark.
Remember that a watermark does not prove ownership by itself and can be removed with editing, so keep the original files too.
How to add a watermark with this tool
- Drop an image onto the upload area, or click to choose one.
- Type your text in Watermark text. It starts with a placeholder, so replace it with your own wording.
- Adjust Opacity from 10 to 100 percent.
- Adjust Font size from 12 to 120 pixels. The size is in actual image pixels, so the same number looks smaller on a very large photo.
- Pick a spot in the nine-square Position grid: the three rows are top, middle and bottom, and the three columns are left, center and right.
- Click Apply watermark. The preview on the right updates to show the result.
- Click Download to save it as a PNG named after your original with "-watermarked" added.
Changes to the settings only appear in the preview after you click Apply watermark again.
Tips and limits
Check the result at full size. Text that looks fine in a small preview may be tiny on a high resolution photo, so raise the font size for big images.
Text is placed with a fixed margin of 24 pixels from the edges. Long text is not wrapped, so a long phrase at a large size can run off the side of the image. Shorten the text or reduce the size if that happens.
The output is always PNG, which can be bigger than your original JPG. You can run it through the image compressor if you need a lighter file for the web. Only watermark images you have the right to publish, and avoid placing text over faces or important details.
