About pdf tools

PDF tools cover the everyday chores around a finished document: putting pages together, taking them apart, shrinking the file, and turning other formats into PDF. To combine files, use Merge PDF. To keep only part of a document, Split PDF and Extract Pages pull pages out, while Delete Pages removes the ones you do not want.

Pick based on what you want to keep. If most of the document stays and a few pages go, delete or reorganize them. If only a small part matters, extract it. When a file is too large to email, Compress PDF re-compresses the pages. For going the other way, tools like JPG to PDF and Word to PDF build a PDF from images or documents. You can also add finishing touches with Sign PDF or by adding page numbers and watermarks.

These tools run in your browser, so your documents are not sent to a server. The PDF OCR tool downloads a text recognition engine the first time you use it, which can take a little while. Some conversions are simple by design: Excel to PDF uses the first sheet, and PDF to HTML exports pages as images.

FAQ

Questions

Do my PDFs leave my computer?

No. Merging, splitting, compressing and the other tools process the file in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, which matters for contracts and personal paperwork.

Can I get text out of a scanned PDF?

Yes, the PDF OCR tool reads a scanned document and extracts its text. It downloads an OCR engine the first time you use it, so the first run is slower than later ones. Accuracy depends on the quality of the scan.

Can the Unlock PDF tool open any protected file?

It removes owner-password restrictions such as no printing or no copying. It is not meant to open files that need a password just to view them.
