What does deleting pages from a PDF do?
Deleting pages creates a new PDF that contains every page of the original except the ones you removed. The original file on your computer is never altered. You get a separate, shorter document.
This tool builds the new file by copying the kept pages into a fresh PDF. Because the pages are copied rather than turned into pictures, text in the pages you keep stays as text, so it can still be selected and searched.
When you need to remove pages
The need comes up constantly: a scanned document with a blank back page, a report with a cover sheet you do not want to share, an exported file with a page of notes in the middle, or a contract where an internal page should not go to the other party.
Removing pages also reduces the document size, since fewer pages usually means a smaller file. If you would rather keep a chosen group of pages than strike out the unwanted ones, Extract Pages works the other way around, and Split PDF is similar.
How to delete pages with this tool
- Drop a PDF onto the upload area, or click to choose one.
- Wait while the tool reads the file and shows a thumbnail of every page, numbered in the top left corner.
- Click the small trash icon at the top right of each page you want to remove. Marked pages fade out. Click the icon again to bring a page back.
- Click Remove selected pages. The new PDF is built right away.
- Click Download to save it. The file is named delete.pdf.
- Use Start over to load a different document.
Everything happens in your browser. The PDF is not uploaded to a server.
Things to check
The tool needs to be able to read the file, so it expects a valid PDF that is not password-protected. If it cannot open the document, it shows a message saying so. Remove the password in another program first.
Thumbnails are small, low-resolution previews, so check page numbers rather than relying on fine detail. For a long document, loading all the previews can take a moment.
The downloaded file has a generic name (delete.pdf), so rename it straight away to avoid mixing it up with other downloads. If you remove every page there is nothing left to save, so keep at least one.
Open the result and scroll through it before deleting the original, especially for important documents.
