How does rotating a PDF page work?
Every PDF page carries a rotation setting, a multiple of 90 degrees that tells a viewer how to orient it. Rotating a page changes that setting rather than redrawing the content. The text, images and everything else stay as they were, and the viewer simply turns the page when it opens.
That is why rotation is a clean, safe operation. Nothing is rasterized and no quality is lost, and pages you do not touch are unchanged.
Situations where you need to rotate pages
The classic case is a scan where one or two sheets went through the feeder sideways or upside down. Another is a landscape table or chart inside a portrait document that opens turned on its side. Rotating a phone-scanned page is often faster than redoing the scan.
Because this tool shows every page as a thumbnail, you can fix just the crooked pages and leave the rest. If you also want to throw away blank or unwanted pages while you are at it, Organize PDF lets you rotate and delete in one pass.
How to rotate PDF pages with this tool
- Drag a PDF onto the upload area, or click to select it.
- Wait for the page thumbnails to load.
- On any page that needs turning, click the small rotate icon in its bottom-right corner. Each click turns it another 90 degrees clockwise, and the thumbnail updates so you can see the result.
- Press Apply rotation.
- Press Download. The file is saved as
rotate.pdf.
Processing happens entirely in your browser and the file is not uploaded.
Tips and things to check
Rotation is clockwise only. To turn a page counterclockwise, click three times (270 degrees clockwise is the same as 90 counterclockwise).
If you click the rotate icon four times you are back where you started, which is easy to do by accident. Look at the thumbnail before applying.
Pages you never click keep their current orientation. The tool applies your chosen angle to each page you rotated, so check the final file in a viewer after downloading. Encrypted or password-protected PDFs may not load, and you will see an error asking for a valid, unencrypted file.
The output is always named rotate.pdf, so rename it if you will be processing several documents.
