How does a PDF page become a JPG image?

A PDF page is a description of text, shapes and pictures positioned on a sheet. An image is just a grid of colored pixels. Converting from one to the other is called rendering: the page is drawn onto a canvas at a chosen size, and the resulting pixels become the picture.

Once a page is an image, it no longer has selectable text or clickable links. What you gain is a file that opens anywhere, can be dropped into a slide, a chat message or a web page, and looks the same on every device.

Why you might want pages as images

Plenty of places accept pictures but not PDFs: presentation slides, social posts, some forms, design mockups and messaging apps. Turning the one page you care about into an image is faster than screenshotting it and cropping.

It is also handy for sharing a single page, such as a menu, a certificate or one chart from a long report, without sending the whole document. And if you want to go the other way later, you can gather the images back into a document with JPG to PDF.

If what you actually want is the text rather than a picture of it, a better route is PDF to Word or the OCR tool.

How to convert a PDF to JPG here

  1. Drag your PDF onto the upload area or click to pick it.
  2. Wait while the tool renders each page. A "Rendering pages" message shows while it works.
  3. Every page appears as a preview in a grid.
  4. Click a page preview to download that page. Files are named page-1.jpg, page-2.jpg and so on, matching the page number.
  5. Use Start over to load a different PDF.

Pages are rendered at a 2x scale, which gives a sharper image than a plain screen-size capture. The work is done in your browser, so the file is not uploaded.

Things to watch out for

Each page is downloaded one at a time by clicking it. There is no "download all" button, so for a long document you will be clicking page by page.

Because the tool renders the whole document before showing results, large or image-heavy PDFs take longer to appear. Password-protected files are not supported, and you will see a message asking for a valid, unencrypted PDF.

The output is a picture, so any text in it can no longer be searched or copied. Keep the original PDF if you might need the text later. If the image is too large to share, run it through the Image Compressor afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

Can I convert only one page of my PDF?

Yes. All pages are shown as previews, and you download only the ones you click. You do not have to save the rest.

Will the text in the image still be selectable?

No. Each page becomes a flat picture, so text can no longer be selected or searched. If you need the text, use an extraction or OCR tool instead.

Does this upload my PDF?

No. Rendering happens locally in your browser, and the file stays on your device.
