Guide

What you can do with this editor

Edit PDF lets you add to a PDF in your browser and save it as a new file:

  • Text: click anywhere on a page and type. Choose the size, colour and bold.
  • White-out: drag over anything to cover it with white.
  • Highlight: drag over text to mark it in yellow, or any colour you pick.
  • Box: draw an outline around something to draw attention to it.
  • Image: add a signature, logo or stamp from a PNG or JPG file.

Everything you add can be moved, resized and deleted before you download. Nothing is uploaded: the PDF never leaves your device.

How to change existing text in a PDF

A PDF stores each word as a fixed shape at an exact position, so no free tool can reliably retype the original text in place. The dependable way to change a word, number or date is:

  1. Choose White-out and drag over the text you want to replace.
  2. Choose Text and click on the white area.
  3. Type the new text, and match the size with the Size menu.

The result looks like the text was changed, and it prints and opens the same everywhere. Use it only on documents you're allowed to change: altering official documents, such as certificates or bank statements, to mislead someone is fraud.

How to edit a PDF online

  1. Drag a PDF onto the upload area, or click to choose it. Every page appears below the toolbar.
  2. Pick a tool from the toolbar: Text, White-out, Highlight, Box or Image.
  3. Click or drag on a page to add it.
  4. To change something you added, pick Select, click it, and drag it to move it or drag the round handle to resize it. Delete (or the Delete key) removes it.
  5. Click Download PDF. The new file has -edited added to its name.

The text tool uses the standard PDF font (Helvetica), which looks like Arial.

Limits

  • Existing text can't be retyped in place; cover it with White-out and add new text, as above.
  • Text supports English and Western European letters. Scripts such as Urdu, Arabic or Hindi can't be added yet, and the tool tells you if your text contains them.
  • Rotated pages can't be edited yet.
  • Password-protected PDFs need Unlock PDF first.

For a signature drawn with your mouse or finger, Sign PDF is quicker.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the existing text in a PDF?

Not in place, which no free tool can do reliably. Cover the old text with White-out, then add new text on top. The result looks and prints like the text was changed.

Can I add my signature?

Yes. Use Image to add a PNG or JPG of your signature, then move and resize it. To draw one instead, use Sign PDF.

Does it add a watermark?

No. The edited PDF has no watermark, and the tool is free with no sign-up.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Pages are shown and the new PDF is created entirely in your browser.
